SURE TRIPOS TRAVEL COMPANY INFO:
Tripos Travel was founded in 1972, in Johannesburg, by the Tripos family, and began
life as a traditional high street travel agent. In 1993, the Company was bought
by a
group of private investors who developed a clear focus on the corporate travel
market. Two years later, South African company, Bursaf Investments (PTY) Ltd,
bought a controlling stake. With fresh capital and new ideas, Tripos quickly
embarked upon a program of expansion and diversification, and the Tripos Travel
Group was born.
In 1998 the Group successfully concluded the acquisition of Pares Travel Services
(PTY) Ltd in Rondebosch, Cape Town, and this business now trades as Tripos Travel
Cape Town offering a the same full spectrum of corporate travel services. In 2000,
Tripos established an inbound tour operating business, Tripos Tours; and in 2002
the
Group acquired a controlling stake in a corporate travel management company in the
UK.
Tripos currently has 5 offices: 3 in Cape Town including its administrative Head
Office, 1 in Johannesburg, and 1 in the UK.
Tripos’ core business remains corporate travel management, and its leisure travel
activities, both inbound and outbound, spin off this core. The Group has a particular
slat towards industries such as: OIL & MINING, OTHER EXPORT BUSINESSES,
MEDIA, FINANCIAL & OTHER SERVICES, and the IT industry. Industry targeting,
together with the mix of local and foreign clients, gives the Group a significant
risk
management mechanism in terms of exchange rate volatility.
Additional, key strengths in the Group lie in its aggressive stance with regard
to
computer technology, as well as its Sure Travel affiliation. Tripos, partially assisted
by Sure, has pioneered a variety of IT systems in its marketplace giving it a
competitive edge. Tripos was also a founder member of Sure Travel and one of it
larger shareholders.
